Kangra: In a bizarre incident in Himachal Pradesh, a man declared dead by doctors reportedly came back to life after his body was brought home, only to die again four hours later. The shocking incident from a village near Palampur in Kangra district has triggered widespread discussion and prompted a formal inquiry by Tanda medical college authorities.
According to family members, the 52-year-old patient had been admitted to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (Tanda) on Friday (December 5, 2025) after his condition deteriorated. The man, who had undergone prostate surgery a few months earlier, was declared dead around 2.30 pm on Saturday. The hospital, they said, handed over the “body” for last rites.
Kin shocked at home as his eyes open
As relatives began preparing for the funeral, a startling moment unfolded. When the family reached home and unwrapped the body, they noticed the man’s eyes opening and blinking. Panicked but hopeful, they immediately offered him water. For the next four hours, the man continued breathing faintly before passing away again.
The family insists the doctors had clearly informed them that the patient had died and advised them to take him home as his condition was “extremely critical”.
Hospital orders probe
Once the story surfaced in the media, the hospital administration ordered an internal investigation. A senior official said the circumstances would be examined and a factual report was expected by Monday.
The incident has sparked heated discussion on social media, with many questioning hospital protocols and the process of certifying death.
Relatives said they had rushed the patient to Tanda hospital on Friday when his health worsened. After doctors pronounced him dead the next day, the family took him back to their village as per instructions, only to witness the unusual revival.
As the investigation proceeds, the case continues to raise eyebrows across the state, with many calling it one of the strangest medical episodes reported from the region in recent years.
