MANDI: A major health awareness initiative, ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar’, was launched at the Civil Hospital in Sundernagar this week as part of a nationwide campaign that began on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
The fortnight-long programme, running till October 2, aims to strengthen women’s health across the country under the Seva Pakhwada 2025.
At the Sundernagar Civil Hospital, which has been chosen as a model health centre for the campaign, a series of activities are being organised under the supervision of Senior Medical Officer and in charge Dr Chaman Singh Thakur, with Dr Vijay Kumar designated as nodal officer.
Screenings and Daily Health Services
• Every day, 150 to 200 women are being screened for blood pressure, blood sugar, haemoglobin levels, tuberculosis, breast cancer and cervical cancer.
• Adolescent girls are receiving haemoglobin checks and counselling on menstrual hygiene.
• Specialist consultations and surgical services are being extended to those in need.
Focus on pregnant women
Under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), special camps are being held:
• The first PMSMA camp took place on September 19 at Sundernagar, where gynaecologist Dr Alok Sharma examined 81 pregnant women.
• These camps are designed to ensure safe pregnancies and early detection of maternal complications.
On September 18, the hospital also organised a blood donation camp in collaboration with Rotary Club Sundernagar. Local residents enthusiastically participated, donating 28 units of blood.
Launched as part of ‘Seva Pakhwada’ to mark Prime Minister Modi’s birthday, the campaign is being rolled out in every state. Health centres across India are holding screening camps, medical consultations, and awareness drives.
In Delhi, for instance, 7,500+ health camps have been announced during the fortnight.
The national focus is on detecting non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cancer at an early stage, while also addressing maternal and adolescent health.
The entire medical and paramedical staff of Sundernagar Civil Hospital is actively contributing to the fortnight’s programme, ensuring that women of all age groups — from teenage girls to elderly women — receive timely screening and medical advice.
