The “Youth Aapda Mitra Training Programme,” organised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Chamba, concluded successfully today. Held from November 3 to November 9, 2025, the week-long initiative saw enthusiastic participation from youth across various regions of the district.
During the training, participants received both theoretical and practical instruction in disaster management, first aid, and search-and-rescue operations. The programme aimed to equip young volunteers to serve as First Responders during emergencies and to lead awareness efforts within their communities.
Dignitaries Applaud Youth Commitment
Deputy Commissioner of Chamba, Mr. Mukesh Repaswal, presided over the closing ceremony as Chief Guest. In his address, he commended the dedication and active involvement of the youth, emphasizing their potential to contribute meaningfully to relief and rescue operations during crises. He noted that such training fosters self-reliance and civic sensitivity among young citizens.
SDM Dalhousie, Mr. Anil Bhardwaj, also attended the event and encouraged the trainees to remain vigilant about disaster preparedness and to initiate local awareness campaigns.
Collaborative Participation
The ceremony was attended by officials from DDMA Chamba, the District Youth Office, the Manager of Youth Hostel Dalhousie, and the In-charge of the Mountaineering Sub-Centre Bharmour. Trainers and all participating youth volunteers were also present.
Programme Objectives
The core objective of the DDMA Chamba’s initiative was to empower youth to respond effectively during disasters, ensure their active involvement in community-level relief efforts, and contribute to building a resilient and disaster-aware society.
