DHARAMSHALA: Rajya Sabha MP and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Rajeev Shukla would continue to be the in-charge of the party’s affairs in Himachal Pradesh even as the party changed several central representatives of states ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
It was under Shukla’s leadership that the Congress had won the Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh in 2022 and the crucial byelections to Arki, Fatehpur and Jubbal-Kotkhai Assembly constitutes and the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in 2021.
Though the Congress has only one of the four Lok Sabha seats in its kitty in Himachal Pradesh, the party is aiming to wrest the remaining three in the next parliamentary elections. Apart from Himachal, Rajiv Shukla has also been given the charge of Chandigarh.
Before the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has made major organisational changes in other states barring Himachal. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was the biggest face of the Congress victory in the Assembly elections in Himachal, has been relieved from the post of in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Congress. She has not been given any new responsibility at present, but would remain the AICC general secretary. Avinash Pandey has been appointed UP in-charge in her place.
Apart from this, former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot has been made in-charge of Chhattisgarh and would remain the AICC general secretary. Ajay Maken has been made the treasurer. Deepa Das Munshi has been given the command of Kerala. Deepak Babariya has been given the responsibility of Delhi-Haryana and Randeep Surjewala of Karnataka.
Kumari Selja has been given the responsibility of Uttarakhand, GA Mir of Jharkhand and Jairam Ramesh of communication. Ramesh Chennithala has been assigned to Maharashtra while Sukhjinder Randhawa would continue to hold the responsibility of Rajasthan while Devender Yadav has been given the charge of Punjab. Manikrao Thackeray has been made the in-charge of Goa, Daman, Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
