Shimla:
More than a year after the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) was dissolved, the party high command late Friday night set the organisational reboot in motion by appointing presidents for 11 district Congress committees. The posts of district chiefs in Kinnaur and Shimla (Rural) are yet to be announced.
The appointments, cleared by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, have been made with immediate effect under the party’s organisation restructuring drive aimed at strengthening the Congress at the grassroots ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
Review, reports and final approval
As part of the exercise, AICC-appointed observers conducted an extensive assessment of organisational health across districts. The process included consultations with party office-bearers, workers and other stakeholders, followed by detailed district-wise reports.
After one-on-one interactions with observers and deliberations with senior leaders, the final list of appointments was approved.
The Congress leadership believes the new district teams will inject fresh momentum into the organisation by placing experienced and active leaders at the helm at the district level.
Focus on booth-level revival
Issuing the notification, AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said the newly appointed district presidents are expected to energise the cadre down to the booth level, galvanise workers and effectively take the party’s policies and public issues to the people.
The high command has underlined the need for discipline and ideological commitment, urging the district chiefs to amplify public concerns from the streets to legislative forums while consolidating the party’s organisational base.
