Resident doctors at IGMC Shimla protest delayed stipends

Shimla, December 19: The Resident Doctors’ Association of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, has raised serious concerns over repeated delays in the disbursement of monthly stipends to senior and junior resident doctors.

According to the association, not a single stipend has been released within the first 15 days of the month over the past three months. As of December 19, resident doctors are still awaiting their payments, a situation they describe as “a matter of shame” for the government, hospital administration, and the Medical Education Department.

IGMC, the state’s largest medical college and hospital, relies on resident doctors who provide round-the-clock care to patients from across Himachal Pradesh. The association alleges that despite this critical role, the authorities have either failed to ensure timely payments or have caused unnecessary delays.

“This is a serious issue. If even the premier medical college of the state cannot pay its resident doctors on time, it reflects poorly on the system,” the association stated.

The growing frustration among doctors has prompted warnings of possible work stoppages or a pen-down strike in the near future if the matter is not resolved urgently.
