Shimla: As ‘Dhurandhar’ storms the national box office and rewrites Hindi cinema records, the Ranveer Singh-Akshaye Khanna starrer has also forged a strong emotional connection with Himachal Pradesh.
Director Aditya Dhar marked the film’s historic success with a visit to the revered Shri Naina Devi Temple in Bilaspur alongside his wife, actor Yami Gautam, who has her roots in the district.
Released on December 5, the high-octane spy thriller has emerged as a juggernaut at the ticket counters, while its success celebrations found a spiritual homecoming in Himachal, blending cinematic triumph with personal roots.
Record-smashing run at box office
Directed by Aditya Dhar, ‘Dhurandhar’ has delivered one of the most dominant theatrical runs in recent years. In just 10 days, the film crossed Rs 351 crore at the domestic box office, officially entering blockbuster territory. Its second weekend alone fetched over Rs 140 crore nett, the highest ever, pushing aside previous record-holder ‘Pushpa 2’.
The film also gave Ranveer Singh his biggest single-day collection, with Rs 44.80 crore on its first Sunday, surpassing his earlier career peak set by ‘Padmaavat’. With this, ‘Dhurandhar’ has become Ranveer’s highest-grossing film in nearly seven years and the second biggest of his two-decade career.
For Aditya Dhar, the film marked a new personal milestone, recording a career-best single-day collection and outperforming his earlier hit ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ by a wide margin.
Himachal visit adds emotional layer
Amid the nationwide euphoria, Yami Gautam and Aditya Dhar visited the Shri Naina Devi Temple to offer prayers. Accompanied by Dhar’s mother Anjali Gautam and other family members, the couple performed traditional rituals, including Kanjak Puja, at the Shaktipeeth in Bilaspur.
For locals, the visit was a moment of pride as Yami returned to her roots following one of the biggest successes in her husband’s career. Dhar described the temple visit as a deeply fulfilling experience, saying the darshan filled his heart with gratitude.
Starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi, ‘Dhurandhar’ has captivated audiences with its gripping narrative of an undercover operative navigating dangerous terrain across borders.
Jointly produced by B62 Studios and Jio Studios, the film continues its dream run, with trade analysts predicting further milestones in the days ahead. As Dhurandhar keeps breaking records nationwide, its Himachal connection has added a heartfelt chapter to the story of a modern Bollywood blockbuster.
