Shimla: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and his wife Anita Kataria were taken ill on Thursday (June 12, 2025) night during their visit to Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla.
The couple experienced breathing discomfort and uneasiness around 9 pm and were promptly brought to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) for medical attention.
They were admitted to special wards 634 and 635 at the hospital, where a team from the Department of Cardiology conducted a thorough medical evaluation. Tests included echocardiograms, blood pressure monitoring and other vital checks.
IGMC’s Medical Superintendent Dr Rahul Rao confirmed that the couple was brought in after reporting discomfort. “All necessary investigations were conducted and the reports were found to be normal. After initial treatment and observation, both were discharged,” he said.
Around 9.25 pm, Governor Kataria and his wife left IGMC and returned to their official residence at Chharabra on the outskirts of Shimla. Doctors have advised the couple to rest.
On Friday morning, Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla visited IGMC to inquire about the Punjab Governor and his wife’s health and wished them a speedy recovery. He expressed relief over the fact that their condition had stabilised and appreciated the hospital staff for their prompt care.
