Mandi: Sardar Patel University (SPU) welcomed Professor Lalit Kumar Awasthi as its new Vice Chancellor. The seasoned academic leader, who previously served as the Director of the National Institute of Technology, NH-58, Srinagar, Uttrakhand, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
International Acclaim:
Professor Awasthi, with a career spanning over three decades, holds a Ph.D. from IIT Roorkee (2003) and an M.Tech from IIT Delhi, both in Computer Science and Engineering. His international exposure includes visits to renowned universities worldwide.
Educational Legacy
During his tenure, Professor Awasthi played a pivotal role in shaping the Computer Science and Engineering department in Hamirpur. He contributed significantly to establishing the first computing facility at NIT Hamirpur, designing M.Tech programs in CSE, cloud computing, and mobile computing.
Accolades and Awards
His iconic track record includes receiving the Best Faculty Award at NIT Hamirpur in 2007 and the Director of the Year Award from the Imperial Society for Innovative Engineers, India, in 2020.
Appointment Details
Appointed by the Governor (Chancellor) of Himachal Pradesh, Professor Awasthi will serve a three-year term in his new role, bringing his expertise in teaching, research, academic administration, and institutional building to Sardar Patel University.
Leadership Journey
Professor Awasthi’s leadership journey includes a five-year term as Director of NIT Jalandhar, additional responsibilities at NIT Delhi, and serving as the officiating Director at NIT Hamirpur until February 3, 2022.
