Chamba district’s talented daughter, Ms. Arti Thakur, daughter of Shri Sain Singh Thakur and Smt. Ichhiya Devi from Gadiyada village (Post Office Brehi, Chamba; presently residing at Shivnagar, Post Office Mehla, Chamba), has brought immense pride to Himachal Pradesh through her outstanding academic and research achievements.

Currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, Ms. Thakur was recently honoured with the Best Research Presentation Award at the 5th Biotic Science Congress and International Conference 2026, held at Gauhati University, Assam.

Her award-winning research focused on the polymer-digesting ability of Galleria mellonella (Greater Wax Moth) and the role of its gut-associated microbial consortium in plastic biodegradation. This pioneering work contributes significantly to developing sustainable bioremediation strategies to combat global plastic pollution.

Academic Journey of Excellence

  • Graduated in Biotechnology from Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Himachal Pradesh.
  • Secured ICAR Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and completed M.Sc. in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
  • Awarded ICAR Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) and now advancing her doctoral research at AAU, focusing on enzymes, microbes, and molecular mechanisms involved in plastic degradation.

Acknowledgment of Support Expressing gratitude, Ms. Thakur credited her success to the constant encouragement and sacrifices of her parents, along with the guidance of her Ph.D. supervisor, Dr. B.K. Bora. She emphasized that their support and mentorship were instrumental in achieving this milestone.

Her achievement is not only a matter of pride for Assam Agricultural University but also a moment of honour for Chamba district and the entire Himachal Pradesh. It stands as an inspiring example for students from rural backgrounds, especially young researchers and women scholars, proving that dedication, hard work, quality education, and proper guidance can lead to remarkable accomplishments at national and international levels.
