Dharamshala/Kangra:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a day-long visit to the flood-affected regions of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Following an aerial survey of the worst-hit Kullu, Mandi and Chamba districts in Himachal, he chaired a high-level review meeting in Kangra, where he assessed the ground situation and ongoing relief efforts.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, senior state officials and central government representatives. Discussions focused on infrastructure damage, restoration of essential services and long-term strategies to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters in the future.

PM meets disaster victims of Mandi, Kullu, Chamba
After the meeting, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with 18 individuals affected by the disaster across Mandi, Kullu and Chamba districts. The personal interactions aim to directly hear survivors’ experiences and challenges and to ensure the government’s response is grounded in local realities.
Later in the evening, PM Modi will travel to Gurdaspur in Punjab, another region severely impacted by recent floods. There, he will meet with flood-affected families and review the state’s response to the crisis.
Aerial survey highlights scale of destruction
During the helicopter survey, PM Modi observed widespread destruction caused by relentless monsoon rains. Landslides, damaged roads, collapsed bridges and stranded communities marked the landscape, especially in remote and hilly regions.

The Manimahesh pilgrimage route in Chamba was notably affected, leaving over 15,000 pilgrims stranded for days due to blocked roads and damaged infrastructure. Authorities reported that bridges were swept away and critical travel routes remain closed.
Disaster toll and ongoing crisis
According to state government data, Himachal Pradesh has suffered estimated losses of over Rs 4,122 crore, with 370 reported deaths due to rain-related disasters this monsoon season. The crisis is ongoing, with a cloudburst reported today in Kullu’s Nirmand region, killing five members of a family.

Before arriving in the region, PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter): “I am visiting the flood-affected areas of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to take stock of the situation. The central government stands shoulder to shoulder with the people during this difficult time.”
