CHAMBA: Continuous snowfall and rain have worsened conditions in the tribal Pangi Valley of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh, making life extremely difficult for residents.
The biggest challenge has been transporting patients to hospitals amid road blockages caused by heavy snow accumulation.
Patients carried on shoulders to reach medical care
On Friday (March 14, 2025), villagers from Punto had to carry a critically ill patient, Sham Singh, son of Durga Das, on a makeshift palanquin to reach the Civil Hospital at Killar.
Earlier, residents of Hudan panchayat also carried two other patients, Sher Singh and Hira Lal, on their backs to ensure they received medical treatment.

Road network paralysed by heavy snowfall
Since February 26, the region has been experiencing continuous snowfall, causing significant disruptions in transportation.
While there have been brief clear spells, thick layers of snow on the roads have rendered them impassable, forcing residents to undertake perilous journeys on foot.
Landslide blocks key road in Bharmour
A heavy landslide on Saturday morning near the Urei Bridge on the Kodla-Urei-Ghataur road in the tribal Bharmour region has further compounded travel difficulties.
According to Vijay Guleria, Junior Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) in Garola, the bridge remains intact, and efforts were underway to clear the debris using heavy machinery.
“Our team has reached the site, and road clearance work is in progress to restore connectivity at the earliest,” he assured.
