Palampur: A coordination meeting was held on Friday in Palampur to discuss the upkeep of statues of artyrs and the planning of commemorative events on significant national occasions. The meeting, chaired by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Netra Meti, aimed to ensure that proper respect and maintenance protocols are followed for memorials located within the Palampur Municipal Corporation limits.
The discussion prominently featured the statues of national heroes, including Captain Saurabh Kalia, whose memorial stands in Saurabh Van Vihar and falls under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department. Other statues discussed included those of Param Vir Chakra awardees Captain Vikram Batra and Major Somnath Sharma, and Major Sudhir Walia, which are maintained by the Municipal Corporation.
SDM Netra Meti emphasised the significance of preserving these sites, not only as symbols of national pride but also as places that inspire future generations. She instructed all departments concerned to ensure that the statues are regularly cleaned, well-maintained and respected.
The meeting also addressed the need to organise timely tribute ceremonies on the birth and martyrdom anniversaries of the heroes. SDM Netra Meti directed officials to make proper arrangements in advance for such events, ensuring floral tributes, public accessibility and overall cleanliness of the surroundings.
The meeting was attended by Tehsildar Sajan Bagga, Additional Commissioner of Palampur Municipal Corporation Vikas Sharma, Forest Division Officer Sanjeev Sharma and Assistant Engineer of the Public Works Department Sarthak Sood. Each official was assigned specific responsibilities to ensure seamless implementation of the upkeep and event planning measures discussed.
