Dalhousie – In a tragic accident on the Banikhet-Khairi road, a youth lost his life and another was severely injured when their car skidded off the road and plunged approximately 500 feet into a deep gorge near Baderu village.

The deceased, 22-year-old Karn Singh, son of Vyas Dev, was a resident of Chhanui village in the Bagdhar panchayat. He was the only child of his family and a student. The injured youth, his cousin Sumit Thakur, son of Kaka Ram, survived but sustained multiple injuries.

According to reports, the duo had visited Banikhet on Sunday for personal work in their vehicle (HP 73 A 6631). On their return, the car lost control at a steep slope and rolled down into a gorge, eventually landing in a deep stream. Both occupants were thrown out of the vehicle during the fall.

Shockingly, the accident remained undiscovered for two days. Family members began searching for them after they failed to return home and their phones remained unreachable. On Tuesday morning, residents spotted vehicle impact marks on a tree near the accident site and noticed a number plate down the slope, prompting a deeper investigation.

Upon being informed, local police, villagers, and the youths’ families reached the site. While Karn Singh was found dead near the stream, Sumit Thakur was eventually located sitting silently in the forest, injured and visibly traumatized after spending two nights and a day alone in rainy conditions.

Sumit was initially treated at Civil Hospital Dalhousie and later referred to Tanda Medical College for advanced care. Karn’s body was taken for post-mortem and handed over to his family.

Dalhousie SHO Jagbir Singh confirmed that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
