Dharamshala — In a major administrative development, the Himachal Pradesh government has officially notified the creation of a new Patwar Circle in Jhiyol, bringing the total number of revenue circles in Dharamshala tehsil to 24. The move comes in response to long-standing demands from thousands of residents across the Dharamshala and Shahpur assembly constituencies.
The new circle has been carved out by reorganizing the existing Ghiyana Kalan Patwar Circle, which had grown too large to efficiently serve the local population. The decision is expected to significantly ease access to revenue services for rural communities.
The demand was initially raised by former Zila Parishad member and senior Congress leader Chaudhary Harbhajan Singh, who brought the issue to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu through former Dharamshala Mayor and Congress candidate Devendra Jaggi. Following the issuance of the notification, a wave of relief and celebration has swept through the region.
Speaking on the development, Harbhajan Singh stated, “Ghiyana Kalan Circle had become unwieldy, making it difficult for people to get their work done. The Chief Minister has respected public sentiment and delivered a major relief to the people.”
The newly formed Patwar Circle will be staffed with a Patwari and an additional support official to ensure smooth operations. Singh extended his gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhu, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, and Devendra Jaggi for their prompt action and support.
With this expansion, the Revenue Department continues to enhance its service delivery, ensuring that administrative reforms translate into tangible benefits for the public.
