The Masters Athletics Federation of India – Himachal Pradesh recently held a meeting in Shimla where a new executive committee was elected unopposed. This smooth election process underscored the unity and commitment within the association, as all positions were filled without any contest. The meeting was chaired by Jyoti Chauhan, Under Secretary of the Law Department, Himachal Pradesh.

Ashish Sharma, MLA from Hamirpur, was appointed as the Chief Patron of the federation, while Dr. Rajkumar Rana of Hamirpur took over as the new President. The election of the committee members was a unanimous decision, showcasing the collective vision of the federation’s leadership. Ripudaman Kaushik from Shimla was elected as the Chief Secretary, and other prominent leaders from across Himachal Pradesh took various key roles.

The Masters Athletics Federation of India – Himachal Pradesh, which caters to athletes aged 30 and above, aims to provide opportunities for older athletes to compete at national and international levels. The federation, recognized by World Masters Athletics (WMA) and Asian Masters Athletics (AMA), follows strict international guidelines and promotes the spirit of sportsmanship, health, and anti-doping measures.

In his speech, newly appointed Chief Secretary Ripudaman Kaushik emphasized the federation’s commitment to expanding opportunities for athletes. He credited Milkha Singh, the legendary ‘Flying Sikh,’ for pioneering Masters Athletics in India by establishing the All India Veteran Athletics in 1978. Kaushik highlighted the importance of providing a platform for athletes over the age of 30, allowing them to showcase their skills and compete on global platforms.

Dr. Rajkumar Rana, the new President, expressed his dedication to the federation’s growth and announced plans for the 45th National Masters Athletics Competition, set to take place in February 2025 in New Delhi. He promised a record-breaking contingent from Himachal Pradesh for the event, underlining the federation’s commitment to excellence.

 

The federation also established committees to oversee future events, including a state-level championship, and appointed legal and accounting advisors to ensure smooth operations. The assembly concluded with members expressing their full support for the new leadership and their shared vision of promoting Masters Athletics in Himachal Pradesh.
