Kangra — Torrential monsoon rains have caused major disruption on the Pathankot-Mandi NH four-lane highway, particularly near Drang beyond Parour, where a section of the under-construction road collapsed, leading to a massive traffic jam. The highway, currently being expanded from Parour to Malan (Nagarota Bagwan), has been plagued with frequent congestion, but the ongoing rainfall has pushed conditions to a critical level.

Due to persistent downpours since yesterday, streams and rivers in the region are overflowing, posing a serious risk to travelers. Landslides have also been reported along vulnerable stretches, further hampering movement. Vehicles traveling between Palampur, Kangra, and Dharamshala via Parour are facing long delays, with traffic snarls stretching for kilometers.
The road surface near the affected areas has turned dangerously muddy, making it particularly treacherous for smaller vehicles and two-wheelers, which risk skidding. Commuters report severe delays, while several buses on intercity routes are expected to reach their destinations much later than scheduled due to detours and slow movement around compromised sections.
In response to the deteriorating conditions, local authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. As a safety precaution, schools and educational institutions in the region have been closed for the day.
The ongoing excavation along the highway for the four-lane project has exposed unstable slopes, increasing vulnerability during heavy rainfall. Experts are calling for immediate safety audits and slope stabilization in high-risk zones.
Travelers are urged to remain cautious and stay updated via official traffic bulletins. The administration continues to monitor the situation closely, and emergency teams are on standby for any contingency.
