Matches and Wins Mark National Sports Day at Nahan College

Nahan: In a spirited celebration of National Sports Day, the Department of Physical Education at Government Post Graduate College, Nahan, organized a thrilling Kabaddi tournament today. The event, which took place in honor of the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, showcased intense competition and exceptional sportsmanship.

A total of 84 participants, divided into seven teams, took part in this vibrant sports event. The men’s category featured teams such as Dynamic Bulls, College A, Dream Nahan, and Sirmaur Bulls. After a series of exhilarating matches, College A emerged as the champion of the men’s division. The women’s category included teams like Sirmaur Hills, Innovators, and Panthers, with Innovators securing the top position after a series of exciting games.

Professor Bharti, Head of the Department of Physical Education, highlighted the importance of National Sports Day, which is celebrated annually on August 29th to honor Major Dhyan Chand’s contribution to hockey and sports. The day serves as a reminder of the value of sports in fostering physical fitness and mental resilience.

The tournament was graced by the presence of the college’s Principal, Dr. Prem Bhardwaj, who emphasized the vital role of sports and exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Bhardwaj encouraged students to embrace sports as part of their daily routines to ensure comprehensive mental and physical development.

The event was attended by a distinguished assembly of Senior Associate Professors, including Dr. Neelkanth, Dr. Sarita Bansal, Dr. Ravikant, Dr. Reena Chauhan, Professor Devendra, Dr. Anup, Dr. Pankaj, Professor Lakshita, Professor Manoj, and Professor Vinod, along with Office Superintendent Mr. Suresh Sharma. The vibrant atmosphere of the tournament was complemented by the enthusiastic participation of the academic and non-academic staff and a large number of students, making the celebration a memorable success.
