Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College at Nerchowk in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh has taken firm disciplinary action against three senior trainee doctors following an incident involving the physical assault of a junior trainee doctor in the college hostel.

As per official records, the incident occurred on the evening of December 18, 2025, when two MBBS third-year trainee doctors allegedly entered the hostel room of a second-year trainee and assaulted him, in violation of hostel and institutional regulations.

The victim, a native of Shimla district, submitted a written complaint to the college administration and the local police the following day.

Taking immediate cognisance of the complaint, the medical college administration constituted an internal inquiry committee to examine the matter. The committee recorded statements from the parties concerned and assessed all available evidence related to the incident.

The inquiry established that the accused trainees had breached institutional norms by forcibly entering the junior trainee’s hostel room and engaging in physical violence. The committee, however, also observed that the incident was preceded by an exchange of verbal arguments and provocation between the individuals involved. These aspects were examined in detail by the institution’s Anti-Ragging Committee.

After thorough deliberation, the Anti-Ragging Committee recommended stringent disciplinary action to uphold campus discipline and student safety. Accepting the recommendations, the college administration ordered the expulsion of all three trainee doctors from the hostel for a period of one year with immediate effect.

In addition to the hostel expulsion, a fine of ₹20,000 each has been imposed on the trainees, and they have been suspended from academic classes for three months.

Confirming the action taken, Dr D.K. Verma, Principal of LBS Medical College, Nerchowk, stated that the disciplinary measures were implemented strictly in accordance with established rules and based on the findings of the inquiry committee. He reiterated that the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards violence, indiscipline, and any behaviour that compromises the safety and academic environment of the campus.

The college administration has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a secure and respectful learning atmosphere and stated that any violation of institutional discipline will invite strict action as per regulations.
