Senior Congress leader Deepak Sharma has said that while the Bharatiya Janata Party has retained control of the Mandi Municipal Corporation, the election results have clearly demonstrated a significant rise in Congress support across the city and reflect growing public confidence in the policies and governance of the Congress-led state government.
In a statement issued after the declaration of results, Sharma said that a comparison of the 2026 Municipal Corporation election results with the 2022 Assembly election figures shows a substantial increase in Congress votes in several wards of Mandi city.
“Despite the BJP securing a majority of seats, the larger political message emerging from these elections is that Congress has significantly strengthened its vote base in Mandi. The people of the city have increasingly reposed faith in the development-oriented policies, welfare initiatives and transparent governance being provided under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu,” Sharma said.
He pointed out that wards such as Khaliar, Paddal, Nela, Sanyard, Samkhetar and Thanehra witnessed a notable increase in Congress votes compared to previous elections.
“This growth is not merely a statistical achievement. It reflects the growing acceptance of Congress among urban voters and indicates that our policies and public outreach programmes are finding strong resonance among the people,” he said.
Sharma said that municipal elections are often decided by narrow margins and local factors, but the overall voting pattern indicates that Congress has made substantial gains in areas where it had previously faced electoral challenges.
“The increase in our vote share across multiple wards is a positive political development and a strong foundation for the future. The results show that the people are appreciating the efforts of the state government in delivering development, strengthening public services and addressing the concerns of common citizens,” he added.
