Chamba: A dramatic rescue unfolded near the Chamba district headquarters in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) as fire department personnel, with the help of local residents, successfully rescued a man who was trapped on a large rock in the middle of Ravi river near Kurah.
According to eyewitnesses, the man was spotted stranded on a rock amidst the river’s strong current. Locals first noticed him and made initial attempts to help but were unable to reach him due to the steep descent from the surrounding hills to the riverbed. The terrain made it nearly impossible for anyone to approach the spot safely.
Realising the danger, the locals immediately contacted the fire department’s rescue team. Within minutes, a rescue vehicle reached the scene. A coordinated operation ensued, lasting nearly an hour, during which the team battled the river’s force and navigated the difficult terrain to bring the man to safety.
The identity of the individual and the reason he was in the river remain unclear. Authorities are currently investigating how the man ended up stranded in such a precarious location.
No injuries were reported and the locals praised the swift action of the fire department for preventing what could have been a tragic outcome.
