In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, the Nurpur Police, following a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, achieved a significant success by arresting a drug peddler and recovering 23.08 grams of heroin (chitta) from his possession in Chhani village under Indora tehsil.
According to the police, a special team of Nurpur Police was on routine patrol in the Kandwal and Damtal areas on Saturday afternoon when it received credible information that Ajay Kumar alias Bunty, a resident of village Chhani, was illegally selling heroin from his house.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police team completed all formalities under Section 42(2) of the NDPS Act and conducted a raid at the accused’s residence in the presence of independent witnesses. During a thorough search of the house, the police recovered a white plastic container hidden behind a dressing table in one of the rooms, which contained 23.08 grams of heroin.
The accused, Ajay Kumar alias Bunty (40), son of late Rajinder Pal, was arrested on the spot, and the recovered contraband was taken into possession.
A case has been registered against the accused at Damtal Police Station under Sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
Police officials stated that such operations will continue relentlessly until drug abuse and trafficking are completely eradicated from the region.
