In a significant crackdown under the Himachal Pradesh Police’s ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’, Sundernagar police achieved a major success by seizing 2.816 kilograms of charas from a vehicle during a naka on the Pung four-lane. Two youths , one from Mandi district and another from Punjab, have been arrested in connection with the case.
Suspicious Movement Leads to Recovery
The operation was carried out by a police team led by Sub-Inspector Daulat Ram, who was conducting routine vehicle checks on the Pung four-lane stretch. During the naka, a white Scorpio SUV travelling from Manali towards Bilaspur was intercepted for inspection.
Police officials stated that the चालक and his साथी appeared suspicious on seeing the naka, prompting a detailed search of the vehicle. During the search, a packet was recovered from inside the vehicle. Upon opening, it was found to contain a substantial quantity of charas.
The contraband was weighed on the spot and measured 2.816 kg, following which both occupants were taken into custody.
Accused Identified, Vehicle Seized
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vijay Kumar (36), a resident of Sarkaghat in Mandi district, who was driving the vehicle, and a 26-year-old from Ludhiana, Punjab.
Police have seized the Scorpio vehicle used for transporting the narcotics.
NDPS Case Registered, Probe Intensified
Confirming the development, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mandi Vinod Kumar said that a case has been registered against both आरोपियों under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the consignment was intended for supply. Police teams are now working to trace the source of the charas and identify the intended recipients,” he said.
Focus on Supply Chain
The police have expanded the investigation to uncover the entire supply network, including backward and forward linkages of the accused. Officials reiterated that the department remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking.
The latest seizure is being seen as a major success for Mandi police, as authorities continue to tighten the noose around narcotics networks operating in the region.
