A major road accident was narrowly averted in the Aani area of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday (February 12, 2025) when a wheel of a moving Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus came out.
The incident took place near Nimla around 9 am as the bus was en route from Dalash to Aani. Due to the alertness and quick thinking of the driver, the bus did not veer off the road into the gorge, saving the lives of all passengers on board.
According to reports, 13 passengers were travelling in the bus at the time of the mishap. The sudden detachment of the wheel caused panic, but the driver skilfully managed to control the vehicle, preventing a disaster.
The bus had undergone maintenance in Rampur only a day ago, raising concerns about the quality of the repairs. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred.
On January 31, a similar situation unfolded when an HRTC bus traveling from Nither to Rampur lost a wheel near Khegsu, nearly skidding off the road. In both cases, the prompt action of drivers averted potential tragedies.
Passengers and local residents have expressed concerns over the safety and maintenance of HRTC buses, urging authorities to conduct thorough inspections to prevent such life-threatening incidents in the future.
