MANDI: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who is the BJP’s Lok Sabha election candidate from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, has advocated for the dignity of women irrespective of their profession or background.
In the midst of a heated electoral campaign, Ranaut addressed the media outside the Chandigarh airport, expressing her dismay over derogatory comments made by Congress leaders Supriya Shrinate and HS Ahir regarding both herself and the Mandi constituency on social media platforms.
Emphasising the cultural significance of Mandi, often dubbed “Chhoti Kashi”, Ranaut articulated the universal need for dignity for women from all walks of life. “Whether a woman is a teacher, an actress, a journalist, a politician or engaged in any other profession, she deserves respect,” Ranaut asserted, underlining the importance of upholding the dignity of every individual.
While refraining from immediate action against the Congress leaders, Ranaut reiterated her commitment to upholding the dignity of her party BJP, awaiting guidance from party president JP Nadda following their scheduled meeting in Delhi.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) swiftly condemned the derogatory remarks, urging the Election Commission to take strict action against Shrinate and Ahir. In a letter addressed to the Election Commission, NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma stressed the imperative of maintaining respect and dignity for all women, regardless of their public profile.
In response to the controversy, Ranaut highlighted her diverse portrayals in cinema, reaffirming her stance on dignity for all women. Meanwhile, Shrinate clarified that any inappropriate comments posted on her social media accounts were promptly removed, asserting her unwavering commitment to respecting all individuals.
