Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, the BJP’s Lok Sabha election candidate in Mandi, has countered Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh over an old letter of actor Sunny Deol that the royal scion posted on social media.
Vikramaditya had shared the authorisation letter from Sunny Deol in which he appointed BJP worker Gurpreet Singh as his representative in the constituency after his election victory five years ago. The minister shared the letter with a comment that “hope similar circumstances wouldn’t arise in Mandi”.
When Sunny Deol became an MP from Gurdaspur in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he had appointed Gurpreet Singh to address people’s issues and attend meetings on his behalf. The actor didn’t return to his constituency after his victory with his political rivals putting up “missing” posters to counter him.
Countering Vikramaditya, Kangana said that even he didn’t have a house in Mandi and people of the constituency would have to visit their native place Rampur in Shimla district to get works done.
Vikramaditya’s mother Pratibha Singh, who is the sitting Mandi MP as well as the Himachal Congress president, is likely to be fielded again. After initial reluctance to defend her seat, Pratibha Singh has indicated that she could throw her hat in the ring and take on Kangana.
Vikramaditya had also questioned Kangana about her whereabouts when rain disaster had struck Mandi during the monsoon season last year. He wondered how the actress would balance her film career with public service and whether the people of Mandi would need to travel to her house in Mumbai for assistance. The minister emphasised the need for her to clarify these concerns to the public before the elections.
