KANGRA: The Newz Radar, Himachal Pradesh’s first and only digital English news network, on Monday (December 22, 2025) organised the second episode of its ‘Udaan: Discover Your Direction’ campaign to help young minds navigate career choices amid the rapidly changing job markets.
The counseling and career-awareness session was organised by The Newz Radar in association with Arni University-Kangra at the Government Senior Secondary School at Kasba Narwana in Dharamshala block of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh.
The programme focused on career clarity, emerging opportunities and skill-based planning, marking the launch of The Newz Radar’s new social outreach campaign after its famous ‘TNR-Shining Star Awards’, an initiative launched in 2022.
IPS officer Aditi Singh urges students to aim high, understand UPSC
Chief guest Aditi Singh, an IPS officer and Superintendent of Police, delivered an inspiring and highly interactive session that immediately connected with the students.
She began by asking a simple yet powerful question: “What is UPSC?” The question drew confident responses from several students, reflecting growing awareness and curiosity about civil services.
Explaining further, Aditi Singh said that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts one of India’s most prestigious national-level examinations. “Every year, lakhs of students from across the country apply for UPSC, but only a few succeed. What makes the difference is clarity of purpose, discipline and perseverance,” she told the students.
She asked students why people choose UPSC as a career option and explained that beyond status or authority, the real motivation lies in serving the nation and society. She spoke about the responsibilities of an IPS officer and how the role demands integrity, courage and compassion.
Sharing tips for aspiring civil servants, Aditi Singh stressed the importance of early preparation, strong fundamentals, regular reading habits and self-discipline. She encouraged students not to be afraid of failure, saying that setbacks are part of every successful journey. “Believe in yourself, stay focused and never underestimate your potential,” she said, motivating students to dream big and work consistently towards their goals.
Her session concluded with a strong message that success is not limited to one career path, but excellence and honesty in any chosen field can lead to a meaningful and impactful life.
Dr Neha Salaria of Arni University asks students to trust their abilities
Dr Neha Salaria, counsellor at Arni University, focused on building self-belief and confidence among students. She emphasised that every student has unique strengths and talents, and success begins when one recognises and nurtures them.
She explained that consistent practice, focus and discipline are key to achieving long-term goals. Dr Salaria encouraged students to set clear and realistic career goals, reminding them that progress comes step by step. Her session filled the hall with positive energy as she urged students to stay motivated and never doubt their abilities.
Dr Irshad Sofi highlights importance of planning, discipline
Dr Irshad Sofi, another counsellor from Arni University, guided students on career planning and mental preparedness. He told students that fear should never stop them from trying something new or challenging.
Dr Sofi explained that mistakes are an essential part of learning and should be treated as lessons rather than failures. He stressed the need for positivity, discipline and consistency in both academic and personal life. His words boosted students’ morale and encouraged them to face future challenges with confidence and determination.
TNR’s social outreach beyond journalism
The Newz Radar Executive Editor Sunil Chadha said the initiative was aimed at encouraging students to identify their strengths, explore non-traditional career options and take informed decisions at the right stage. “Udaan is about helping youth recognise their potential and understand that success today demands awareness, adaptability and confidence,” he said.
Since its launch in 2022, The Newz Radar has combined research-based journalism with community initiatives, including the TNR-Shining Star Awards honouring meritorious students and the Spring Carnival in Dharamshala to promote tourism and local culture.
With Udaan, The Newz Radar has added structured career guidance and youth motivation to its social initiatives. The Newz Radar aims to organise similar programmes in other districts, helping students across Himachal Pradesh discover direction, confidence and purpose in their career journey.
