Temporary suspension due to Chandigarh Airport maintenance; ticket prices soar after resumption

DHARAMSHALA: Air travellers between Chandigarh and Kangra in Himachal Pradesh will face a temporary disruption as IndiGo has suspended operations on this route for 14 days starting October 26. The decision comes in the wake of scheduled runway maintenance work at Chandigarh Airport, which will affect several short-haul flights.
According to the current booking status on IndiGo’s online portal, no flights are available between October 26 and November 8, 2025. Both inbound and outbound flights connecting Kangra and Chandigarh have been taken off the schedule for this period.
The disruption comes shortly after the Diwali and Bhai Dooj festivals, potentially impacting passengers returning home after the celebrations.
Only one flight on route
Kangra airport is served by only one daily flight to and from Chandigarh, which is operated by IndiGo, making this cancellation significant for the region. With no alternate air connectivity available during the suspension, travellers will need to rely on road transport such as buses or private vehicles.
While regular operations are expected to resume on November 9, passengers may have to prepare for high fares. The IndiGo booking site is currently showing ticket prices as high as Rs 21,837 for a one-way trip from Kangra to Chandigarh on that date, a sharp rise from the usual fare of Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000.
Even beyond this temporary suspension, flight availability in December remains limited. As per current listings, the route will only see operations on about five to six days throughout the month. With tourist season and holiday travel peaking in Himachal Pradesh during winter, the reduced frequency may cause further inconvenience for flyers.
