In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, MLA Dr. Janak Raj trekked on foot from Janghi to Holi to meet flood-affected residents of Saloon village in Chamba district. Torrential rains have wreaked havoc in the region, sweeping away homes and roads, leaving many families stranded and homeless.
Despite broken roads and treacherous mountain trails, Dr. Janak Raj continued his journey without pause, determined to witness the suffering firsthand. Upon reaching Holi, he met with all affected families and personally distributed ₹10,000 each to seven households whose homes were washed away by the swollen river.
After the visit, the MLA immediately set off toward Bharmour, covering 60 kilometers on foot alongside Manimahesh pilgrims, navigating landslide-hit paths and washed-out roads. “When my people are in pain, how can I rest?” he said, vowing to ensure every possible form of assistance reaches the victims.
He emphasized that the devastation caused by the rains is beyond repair, but pledged to push for comprehensive relief and rehabilitation. He also assured that he would meet with the government after a full damage assessment and demand urgent restoration of roads and economic aid for rebuilding homes.
“This is not a show of sympathy,” he added. “These people are my own. Their pain is my pain.” If needed, he said, he would approach the central government to secure additional support for his constituents.
