Solan:
In yet another shocking case of student assault in Himachal Pradesh, a Class 4 student at a government primary school at Parwanoo in Solan district was allegedly beaten by his teacher, resulting in a serious head injury. The incident has sparked outrage among parents and renewed debate over rising cases of corporal punishment in schools across the state.

According to reports, the injured student was brought to the Regional Hospital, Solan, by his parents on Wednesday (November 5) for treatment. The family has also lodged a formal complaint at the Sadar police station, Solan, demanding strict action against the accused teacher.

Teacher ‘hits’ child with iron scale

The victim’s mother told reporters that she received a call from the school informing her that her son had been injured. “The teacher himself admitted that he had slapped my son. But when we reached the school, other children said he had beaten him with an iron scale,” she alleged.

She further claimed that the teacher’s assault caused heavy bleeding from the child’s head. “The child was taken near a tap and his wound was washed with water. Later, we were told he got hurt by a window, but the truth is my child was beaten mercilessly,” she said.

Parents had earlier warned school

The boy’s mother also alleged that this was not the first instance of such behaviour. “We had warned the school administration earlier about the repeated beating of our son, but they took no action. This time, we want strict punishment for the teacher,” she demanded.

Following the complaint, local authorities have begun an inquiry into the matter. Police officials confirmed that statements from both sides are being recorded.

Police confirm registration of case

Superintendent of Police (Solan) Gaurav Singh confirmed the incident, stating, “A case has been registered based on the complaint of the child’s parents. Both parties are being questioned and the matter is under serious investigation. It would be premature to draw conclusions before the inquiry is complete.”

So far, the school administration has not issued any official statement regarding the alleged assault.

Similar incident in Rohru

This incident comes just weeks after another disturbing case of corporal punishment in Rohru in Shimla district where a primary school head teacher, Reena Rathore, was accused of stripping and beating a student with a thorny branch. The video of that incident went viral, prompting swift action from the education department against the teacher.

Child rights activists have condemned the latest assault in Solan, calling for the education department to enforce stricter monitoring and ensure accountability in schools.

As the investigation continues, parents across the state are demanding that the government take firm steps to end the culture of corporal punishment.
