An orientation session themed “IBM SkillsBuild for Adult Learners” was successfully organized by the Career Counseling, Guidance, and Placement Cell of Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra Government College, Palampur. The initiative was held under the aegis of CSRBox and IBM SkillsBuild, aiming to introduce students to emerging career pathways in the digital economy.
Principal Prof. Pankaj Sood inaugurated the session with a compelling address, underscoring the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Cyber Security in today’s professional landscape. He emphasized the need for students to stay ahead by embracing skill-based learning platforms.
The keynote speaker, Ms. Ritu Thakur—Associate Manager and AI Trainer at IBM SkillsBuild–CSRBox—introduced IBM SkillsBuild as a free, globally accessible platform designed to enhance technical and professional competencies. She encouraged students to explore its wide array of courses tailored for adult learners and aspiring professionals.
A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IBM SkillsBuild–CSRBox and the college, paving the way for sustained collaboration in future student-centric programs and orientation drives.
The session drew enthusiastic participation from nearly 300 students across Commerce, Science, Arts, BBA, and BCA streams. The program was anchored by Dr. Meenakshi Thakur, while Dr. Shailja Vasudev, Coordinator of the Career Counseling Cell, presented a memento to Ms. Ritu Thakur in appreciation of her insightful contribution.
