In a strong show of dissent, employees and faculty members of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) staged a protest today against the university administration and the state government over continued delays in salary disbursement. Despite it being August 7, regular salaries have not been credited, a recurring issue that has persisted for several months.

Prof. Nitin Vyas, President of HPUTWA (Himachal Pradesh University Teachers and Workers Association), stated that the university community is grappling with severe financial and psychological distress due to this prolonged crisis. He emphasized that such a situation is unprecedented in the university’s 55-year history.
“HPU, established in 1970 and long regarded as a pillar of academic excellence in Himachal and North India, is now facing a serious blow to its dignity due to administrative neglect,” said Prof. Vyas.
Issuing a stern ultimatum, he warned:
“If salaries are not released within the next 48 hours, we will be compelled to shut down the university entirely and launch a large-scale agitation against the state government. We have already sent multiple letters highlighting this issue, but our patience has run out.”
Prof. Vyas outlined the next steps if immediate action is not taken:
- Boycott of all administrative duties
- Suspension of examinations and evaluation work
- Submission of formal memoranda to the Governor (Chancellor) and the Education Minister
