HP Assembly session: ₹4.30 crore spent on repairing houses of CM, Deputy CM & ministers, says Sukhu

DHARAMSHALA: The Himachal Pradesh government spent Rs 4,30,25,678 crore on repairing the residences of its ministers after the Congress came to power in the state in December 2022.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu gave this answer in the House to a question asked by BJP MLA Randhir Sharma. The amount was spent on the residences of Chief Minister Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and other ministers.

Randhir Sharma said that on one hand the government was talking about economic crisis and on the other it was “spending recklessly”. On this, Chief Minister Sukhu said that spending on housing was a routine task. The government was spending not only on the residences of the ruling party leaders, but also on those of the opposition MLAs.

CM Sukhu said that the MLAs too demanded repair of their houses and accordingly this work was done regularly. He also said that there was a previous liability of Rs 2.5 crore for the repair of MLA houses.

Meanwhile, there are 536 vacant posts in the backlog of dependents of freedom fighters in various departments of the state. Chief Minister Sukhu gave this information in the House in reply to a question asked by MLA Sanjay Rattan regarding filling the backlog of the dependents of freedom fighters. At present, 2 per cent reservation in government jobs has been kept for the category. The Chief Minister said that the government would soon consider filling the vacant backlog in various departments.
