UNA: A youth getting his haircut inside a salon in the Lower Basal market on the Chandigarh-Dharamshala National Highway was among two persons *killed in broad daylight in Una district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday (July 27, 2025).
According to eyewitnesses, Rakesh Kumar, alias Gaggi, a resident of Upper Arniyala in Una district, was sitting in the salon for a haircut when two unidentified youths arrived on a motorcycle, entered the shop and fired multiple bullets at him at close range.
Rakesh was rushed to the Regional Hospital in Una where doctors declared him brought dead. In the crossfire, another youth present in the salon also sustained gunshot injuries and succumbed to his wounds. His identity is yet to be confirmed.
The attackers managed to flee the scene immediately after the incident, triggering panic in the busy market area.
Police begin investigation, locals question law and order
A police team reached the spot and launched a full-scale investigation. The area has been cordoned off and forensic experts are examining the scene for clues. CCTV footage from nearby shops is being reviewed to track the movement of the attackers and their getaway route.
This incident marks another addition to the growing list of violent crimes in Una, leaving locals shocked and fearful. Residents have raised serious questions about the deteriorating law and order situation in the district and the effectiveness of local policing.
Senior police officials have assured the public that every angle of the case is being investigated and the culprits will be brought to justice at the earliest.
