SHIMLA:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain and snow in the higher reaches of Chamba, Mandi and Kangra districts of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday (October 23, 2025).
A yellow alert has been issued for these regions, warning of possible rain, snowfall and thunderstorms. Weather across other parts of the state, however, is expected to remain largely clear.

According to the latest bulletin, the weather system will weaken by Friday, bringing a spell of sunshine to most areas. The department said that no major rain activity is expected for the next six days, leading to a gradual rise in daytime temperatures.

Tourists throng snow-covered Rohtang

As fresh snow blanketed the higher mountain ranges over the past 48 hours, tourists from across the country have started flocking to Himachal’s snow spots. Rohtang Pass, near Manali, has once again become the centre of attraction, with visitors enjoying snow games and scenic views.

The road between Manali and Rohtang has been fully restored for vehicular movement, making it easier for tourists to reach the snow-covered region. Local hoteliers reported a rise in bookings as travellers arrived to experience the early winter chill.

Temperatures rise slightly in lower hills, sub-zero in Lahaul-Spiti

The state continues to witness temperature variations between lower and higher altitudes. Una recorded the highest temperature at 33.5°C, which is 2.3°C above normal, while Mandi saw a significant drop of 4.7°C, settling at 25.0°C.

In contrast, the tribal regions of Lahaul-Spiti remained in the grip of freezing cold. Tabo recorded a minimum temperature of –0.7°C, Kukumseri 0.4°C, Keylong 1.8°C, Kalpa 4.9°C, Manali 7.4°C and Narkanda 8.9°C.

The IMD said that with the skies clearing up from Friday onwards, both day and night temperatures are expected to stay close to normal for the next few days.
