Shimla:
Himachal Pradesh is set to witness a fresh spell of rain and snow early next week, with the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, forecasting a western disturbance to become active from the night of November 3.
Light rain and snowfall are expected in parts of the state on November 4 and 5, mainly over higher and middle hills.

Fog blankets plains, visibility drops to 100 metres

Dense fog covered several low-lying areas of the state on Saturday morning, including Sujanpur in Hamirpur, Balh Valley in Mandi and regions around the Bhakra Dam in Bilaspur. Visibility dropped to less than 100 metres in some locations. The Meteorological Department had already issued a yellow alert for fog in Mandi and Bilaspur districts.

Western disturbance to trigger rain, snow from Sunday night

The weather office said a western disturbance would become active from the night of November 3. As a result, light rain and snow are likely over high-altitude regions such as Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba and upper Kullu on November 4, while most other parts will see clear weather.

Dip in temperature expected after November 5

The Met department has predicted that November 5 will bring widespread cloud cover across Himachal, with snowfall over higher reaches and light rainfall in lower and mid-hill regions. A slight fall in temperatures is likely after the spell of rain and snow.

Currently, the mercury in 10 towns has dipped below 10°C, while Kaza’s Kukumseri recorded the lowest at –1.2°C and Tabo at –0.8°C. In contrast, Dharamshala, Una and Solan have witnessed a sharp rise in minimum temperatures, which are several degrees above normal.
