Himachal weather expected to change from March 9 as fresh western disturbance set to get active

Himachal Pradesh is set to experience five days of rain and snowfall starting March 9 as a fresh western disturbance is set to get active over the state.

While the weather is expected to remain dry on March 7 and 8, the Meteorological Centre in Shimla has predicted light snowfall and rain in higher-altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kangra and Kullu districts on March 9.

The intensity is expected to increase from March 11 to 13, with light to moderate rain and snowfall forecasted across several parts of the state.

153 link roads out of bounds in tribal Lahaul-Spiti

Despite a week passing since the last snowfall, several areas in Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti remain disrupted.
In Lahaul-Spiti, around 153 link roads under the Public Works Department remain blocked, and 164 power transformers are still affected.

Due to high snow walls near Atal Tunnel (North and South Portals), Sissu and Gondla, the roads have been partially opened with one-way traffic.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) 94 RCC has successfully reopened the Tandi-Udaipur road for traffic after rigorous efforts.

Temperature expected to drop by 2-3°C

In the last 24 hours, maximum temperatures have increased significantly across several locations, with a rise of 2-5°C above normal.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that minimum temperatures will gradually rise by 3-4°C over the next three days while maximum temperatures may increase by 3-5°C until March 9.
However, after this period, a drop of 2-3°C in maximum temperatures is expected due to incoming weather disturbances.

The coming week is expected to bring significant weather changes, affecting travel and daily life in the hill state. Authorities have urged residents and travellers to stay updated and take necessary precautions.
