Himachal weather: Alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms in some parts today

Shimla: Several parts of Himachal Pradesh are expected to witness heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and hailstorms again on Tuesday, (May 20, 2025), according to the Meteorological Department.

On Monday, parts of several districts, including Kullu, Mandi and Kangra, experienced intense rain and violent storms. In some areas, strong winds uprooted trees, crushing vehicles underneath. Two persons lost their lives in Mandi and Kangra after trees fell on their vehicles.

The Himachal Pradesh weather department has forecast strong winds and hailstorms to continue in various parts of the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. This poses a serious threat to local agriculture, particularly apple, tomato and vegetable crops, which could be severely damaged by the stormy conditions.

The Himachal Pradesh weather is expected to remain truant until May 21 as light rain is expected in the mid-hill regions, while higher altitudes may see light rain or snowfall.

Storm alert for five districts

The Himachal Pradesh weather department has issued a strong rain and storm warning for five districts of Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Una and Kangra over the next two days.

Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect their crops. Recommendations include reinforcing field structures and inspecting protective fruit bags to minimise potential damage.

Tourist rush amid rising heat

With temperatures climbing in the plains, a wave of tourists has started flocking to the hills.
Popular hill stations were bustling with visitors over the weekend and hotel bookings for June are already surging. This uptick in tourist arrivals has brought fresh optimism to local tourism businesses.
