Operation Sindoor: Himachal village in Lahaul that has 38 youth in Army, 23 deployed along J&K border

MANDI: Amid the success of India’s Operation Sindoor against Pakistan and its terrorists, the tribal Hinsha village in Himachal Pradesh’s remote Lahaul valley has become a symbol of unwavering national spirit.
With 38 youths currently serving in the Indian Army, and 23 of them deployed along the Jammu & Kashmir border, this small village of just 72 families has earned its identity as a “Veer Jawano Ka Gaon” (village of bravehearts).

Patriotism runs deep in Hinsha soil

What sets Hinsha apart is not just the number of soldiers it has sent to the frontlines, but the culture of service that begins in childhood.

In the absence of sports academies or Army preparation centres, children here grow up training themselves — mentally and physically — for a life of discipline and dedication.
From school-level sports competitions to community-led fitness routines, every child here grows up idolising the men in olive.

Notably, eight young men were recruited into the Agniveer programme in April 2024, many of them the only sons in their families. Some households even have two sons serving in the armed forces.
The village’s military tradition is generational — 12 former soldiers have already retired with honour, continuing to inspire the next line of recruits.

Village that’s always battle-ready

Despite being in a geographically challenging region, Hinsha has defied limitations. There are no formal training centres, yet the village continues to send dozens into the defence forces purely on the strength of self-discipline and willpower.

Villagers say the challenging environment actually toughens the youth, preparing them mentally and physically for the military.
