Educational, recreational tour comprises travel through air, Shatabdi
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off the inaugural batch of 22 children under the Sukh Aashray Yojana on Thursday (January 2, 2025), marking the beginning of a 13-day educational and recreational tour.
This is probably the first-of-its-kind initiative in the country. Departing in a Volvo bus, the group, comprising 16 girls and six boys, received the Chief Minister’s warm wishes for a memorable and enriching experience.
Sukh Aashray Yojana empowering 6,000 children
CM Sukhu highlighted the state government’s commitment to the welfare of orphaned children, citing the Sukh Aashray Yojana as a pivotal step in empowering the 6,000 children adopted under the state’s legislation.
The scheme provides comprehensive care, including education and exposure to new opportunities. The tour includes stops at Chandigarh, Delhi and Goa. From January 2 to 4, the children will stay at Himachal Bhawan in Chandigarh.
Three-star hotel stay in Goa
On January 5, they will travel to Delhi via Shatabdi Express, exploring historical landmarks until January 8. They will then fly to Goa on January 9, staying at a three-star hotel while visiting tourist and historical sites, before returning to Chandigarh on January 14.
“This government serves as both parents to these children, ensuring they receive the same experiences as those with families. This exposure will enrich their knowledge and prepare them for future opportunities. They are the nation’s future and will play a vital role in its development,” said CM Sukhu.
Several ministers present at flag-off ceremony
Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil praised the government’s dedication to addressing the concerns of orphaned children, which had been overlooked by previous administrations.
Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor MC Shimla Surinder Chauhan, Principal Adviser to the Chief Minister (media) Naresh Chauhan and Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap were among the dignitaries present.
