HAMIRPUR: Subedar Kuldeep Chand, an Indian Army soldier belonging to Kohalwin village in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh, laid down his life while preventing infiltration attempts by terrorists from across the border along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu’s Akhnoor sector late Friday (April 11, 2025) night.
Kuldeep Chand was martyred as Pakistani Rangers opened unprovoked fire, in a grave violation of the ceasefire agreement. He was part of a team that successfully thwarted the infiltration attempt, but succumbed to injuries sustained during the heavy firing.
Survived by wife, 2 kids, elderly parents
Subedar Kuldeep Chand had returned to duty just two months ago after a brief leave. Known for his commitment and leadership, he stood firm with his unit to block the infiltration attempt, ultimately making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and elderly parents, all of whom are now grappling with the devastating loss.
Belongs to CM Sukhu’s home constituency
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Subedar Kuldeep Chand, who hailed from his own Assembly constituency Nadaun.
Taking to social media, CM Sukhu wrote: “The news of martyrdom of Shri Kuldeep Kumar ji, a resident of Kohalwin village in my constituency, is extremely saddening. His unforgettable contribution to the service of the nation will always be remembered with honour. May God grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. My heartfelt condolences are with the grieving family in this hour of pain.”
The incident marks yet another instance of Pakistan violating the ceasefire agreement signed in 2021, which has largely held across the LoC until recent months.
