Himachal Pradesh weather update: Hopes of snow dashed again, no signs of precipitation even for next week

SHIMLA: Despite a forecast for rain and snow in Himachal Pradesh on January 16-17, there is no likelihood of change in weather in the state, as per the revised predictions by the Meteorological Centre, Shimla. Furthermore, the forecast for the next week remains relatively dry, leaving Himachal hoteliers, orchardists and residents disappointed as their wait for any relief from the prolonged dry spell continues to get longer.
The state has experienced a noticeable drop in day temperatures, although some regions still report temperatures above the seasonal average. Shimla, Kalpa, Dharamshala, Keylong and Chamba have witnessed a decline of more than 2 degrees Celsius, while Solan, Reckongpeo, Kufri, Kukumseri and Samdho have recorded more substantial decreases, ranging from 3 to 5.3 degrees Celsius.
Over the last 24 hours, maximum temperatures varied across the state, with Shimla at 14.3 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar 20 degrees, Bhuntar 20.7 degrees, Kalpa 12.4 degrees, Dharamshala 18 degrees, Una 20.7 degrees, Keylong 7.3 degrees, Solan 18.5 degrees, Chamba 19.3 degrees, Kufri 10 degrees, Kukumseri 10.1 degrees, Narkanda 11.4 degrees, Reckongpeo 15 degrees and Samdho 11.3 degrees.
The minimum temperature in Shimla stands at 3.6 degrees Celsius, close to the normal range. However, several areas in the state have recorded temperatures below the seasonal average. Minimum temperatures include 1.7 degrees in Sundernagar and Bhuntar, minus 1.6 degrees in Kalpa, 5.2 degrees in Dharamshala, 2.0 degrees in Una, 1.7 degrees in Mandi, and 2.8 degrees in Dalhousie. Kukumseri reported a frigid minimum temperature of -8.8 degrees.
Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department has forecast clear weather conditions in the state until January 23. Despite the clear skies, the department has cautioned residents about the potential for heavy smog in many districts over the next two days. The unexpected shift in weather patterns keeps the populace on their toes, as they navigate the uncertainties in the coming days.
