— To mark World Tourism Day, the Institute of Vocational Studies (Tourism), Himachal Pradesh University, has launched a week-long Tourism Week featuring a vibrant mix of academic and cultural activities. The initiative, coordinated by Professor Nitin Vyas, aims to raise awareness about the significance of tourism and promote principles of sustainable travel among students and researchers.

The celebrations began on September 19 with a spirited sports competition. The inaugural ceremony was graced by distinguished guests including Chief Guest Professor Hari Singh (Head, Department of Physical Education), Colonel Rakesh Sharma of the Indian Army, Professor Sonia Khan (Director, Institute of Vocational Studies), Professor Sushma Rewal, Professor Chandra Mohan Parshira, Professor Nitin Vyas, Dr. Preeti Kanwar Nagal, Dr. Vineet Kamal, Mr. Surendra, and Mr. Vishal Mehra.

Over two days, students showcased their sportsmanship in events such as cricket, chess, and carrom. Continuing the momentum, September 25 featured two engaging competitions — a “Heritage Visit” and a “Dry Food Competition.”

During the Heritage Visit, 45 students explored the Presidential Retreat in Mashobra. Coordinator Ashish Negi, a research scholar, emphasized the importance of such experiential learning for holistic development and skill-building in tourism education.

Meanwhile, the Dry Food Competition was judged by Mr. Sushil Sharma, General Manager of GMHR Café and Restaurant, who praised the culinary efforts of hotel management students and lauded the university’s initiative.

Throughout the week, students have actively participated in various events. Preparations are in full swing for the grand cultural evening and closing ceremony scheduled for September 29 at the university auditorium.
