Himachal Pradesh has witnessed a sharp increase in digital bookings of domestic LPG cylinders, with the figure rising to 94 per cent in May 2026 compared to 85 per cent in February this year, reflecting growing consumer awareness, transparency and adoption of digital services in the state.

Officials said the increased use of digital platforms has substantially reduced instances of fake bookings and duplication, thereby strengthening accountability and streamlining the LPG distribution system. In a further push to curb black marketing and irregularities, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are continuously enhancing the Digital Authentication Code (DAC) mechanism, with Himachal Pradesh already achieving a 94 per cent authentication target.

The rise in digital transactions comes amid a period of heightened demand for petroleum products across several states due to seasonal agricultural operations and harvesting activities. Industry sources noted that comparatively lower prices at public sector fuel outlets have also led to a noticeable shift among retail consumers, while institutional and commercial users are increasingly relying on retail fuel stations operated by public sector companies.

Public sector OMCs — Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum — have intensified operational and logistics coordination across the country to ensure uninterrupted availability of petrol, diesel and LPG despite the sudden surge in demand witnessed in several regions.

Officials stated that the companies are utilising their extensive nationwide infrastructure network, including terminals, depots, pipelines, LPG bottling plants and retail outlets, to maintain seamless supply and timely replenishment of fuel stocks. Supply teams, transportation networks and terminal operations are functioning round the clock to ensure smooth movement of petroleum products and uninterrupted distribution.

The OMCs are also maintaining close coordination with state administrations to efficiently monitor stock positions and address demand fluctuations in a timely manner. The oil industry has assured consumers that adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG are available across the country and all necessary steps are being taken to maintain uninterrupted supply.

Consumers have been advised to continue normal purchasing behaviour and avoid panic buying. Authorities have also urged citizens to rely only on official communications issued by authorised agencies and oil marketing companies for accurate information regarding fuel availability and supply-related updates.
