Himachal Pradesh Police have intensified their efforts to curb illegal mineral smuggling by thoroughly checking vehicles transporting minerals across the state. The department, under the direction of Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari, IPS, has strengthened enforcement measures to prevent the illegal export of minerals.

Superintendents of Police in Sirmaur, Una, and Nurpur were instructed to conduct night nakas (checkpoints) from 10 PM to 3 AM in areas prone to illegal mining. Acting on these orders, Nurpur Police organized checkpoints at five locations, leading to the seizure of 24 vehicles carrying illegal mining materials. Challans were issued, and the cases were forwarded to the courts for legal proceedings.

In Una, police set up checkpoints at four locations:

  • Polian–Jejo Road

  • Pandoga–Hoshiarpur Road
  • Gagret–Hoshiarpur Road

A total of 17 vehicles were inspected, and 13 were seized, including 11 registered in Punjab and two in Rajasthan. The violations ranged from transporting minerals without an X-form to overloading despite having the required permit.
