Senior journalist Shashibhushan Purhohit from Himachal Pradesh has been entrusted with a significant responsibility in the National Union of Journalists-India.
Purhohit, who has served as the bureau chief for several national newspapers over the years, was appointed as a member of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ)’s national executive during its national convention held in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
NUJ’s national president Rasa Bihari also appointed Purhohit as the in-charge of Punjab. Currently, Purhohit serves as the Himachal Pradesh head for prominent media group “Tirchi Nazar” based in Chandigarh. Previously, he spent nearly 15 years working with Hindi daily Amar Ujala, covering multiple districts as the bureau chief.
Having held positions such as city bureau chief in Chandigarh and bureau chief roles in Manali, Dharamshala, Mandi, Una and Solan districts, Purhohit is known for his journalism dedicated to social values and advocacy for journalists’ rights. The NUJ recognised his services and entrusted him with this key responsibility.
Purhohit expressed his gratitude to NUJ’s national president Rasa Bihari, national secretary Pradeep Tiwari and treasurer Arvind Singh for the appointment. In Himachal Pradesh, state journalist union’s president Ramesh Rana, general secretary Kishor Thakur, cashier Om Pal Thakur, vice-president Surender Sharma, Vishal Anand and district president of Solan Amit Thakur extended their congratulations to Purhohit. They stated that his new role would strengthen the protection of journalists’ rights.
