Himachal news: Hamirpur youth killed after being hit by car in Chandigarh, bike dragged for 200 metres, was on way to meet sister


A tragic road accident in Chandigarh claimed the life of a 23-year-old youth from Himachal Pradesh late Saturday night. The incident occurred near the Water Works area of Maloya, when a speeding car hit a motorcycle carrying two young men and dragged it for nearly 200 metres.


The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Sharma, a resident of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh. His friend Abhishek Rao, who was riding pillion, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at PGIMER-Chandigarh.


According to the police, the duo was en route from Hamirpur to Baddi to visit Abhishek Sharma’s sister when the accident occurred around midnight. As they reached near Maloya’s Water Works, a car struck their bike and continued dragging it for a considerable distance. The impact was so severe that Abhishek Sharma, who was riding the motorcycle, succumbed to his injuries before he could receive medical attention.


A PCR team responded swiftly to the scene and rushed both victims to the hospital, where doctors declared Abhishek Sharma dead on arrival. His companion, Abhishek Rao, was referred to the PGI with a fractured leg.


Following the incident, the police registered a case against the accused driver, Tejinder Singh, a resident of TDI City, Sector 118, Mohali. He was taken into custody but was later released on bail. After conducting the post-mortem, the police handed over Abhishek Sharma’s body to his family.


In his statement to the police, Abhishek Rao described how the car rammed into them and dragged them along the road.
