SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh government will fill 2,600 posts of period-based guest teachers in schools and colleges on the basis of interviews to be conducted by the directors of higher and elementary education. These teachers will be appointed for a minimum of one and maximum of two years. They will not be removed from their posts even after the arrival of regular teachers. The state Education Department officials have completed preparations to start the recruitment process and Education Minister Rohit Thakur is awaited to return to the Secretariat in Shimla to issue a notification in this regard. The guest teachers will not be recruited by forming a committee like the PTA or the SMC.

These teachers will be selected on the basis of merit. After counselling, they will also get the option to select stations on merit basis. Those with 75 per cent marks in Class XII and having 65 per cent marks in TET will be eligible for JBT teacher recruitment. Only the candidates who pass NET or SET will get a chance in college cadre teacher recruitment. Departmental officials said that regular teachers will not be sent to the educational institutions where guest teachers are appointed. Even if a regular teacher is sent due to some reasons, guest teachers will not be removed. They will be allowed to complete their term.

The Himachal Pradesh cabinet recently approved the filling of 2,600 posts of teachers on period basis in schools and colleges. The cabinet has taken this decision to fill the vacancies in various areas, including remote and tribal. Of all the posts, 1,600 are of JBT teachers and 1,000 of lecturers in school and college cadre. They will get Rs 200 to Rs 250 per period in schools and Rs 300 in colleges. There will be a maximum of four periods daily.
