Dehra Gopipur: Former MLA and BJP leader Hoshiar Singh has alleged that the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) opened by the Congress government in Dehra has turned into a “white elephant” for the people of the constituency. He claimed that the office, which was inaugurated with “political motives”, lacks sanctioned posts — from officers to support staff — and has therefore become an unnecessary financial burden on the state exchequer.
Hoshiar Singh accused the government of misleading the public by spending lakhs of rupees on a facility that he said provides no real services to the people. “The residents of the constituency feel politically cheated,” he stated.
Alleges CM’s office being misused for political gains
The former MLA alleged that Congress MLA Kamlesh Thakur, who is also the wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has been using the office purely for political activities. He said such use violates constitutional norms and undermines the dignity of the Chief Minister’s position.
“It is worrying that the Chief Minister’s Office is being treated like private property,” Hoshiar Singh remarked, adding that disregarding constitutional traditions for personal political benefit has become “part of the Congress DNA”.
Says Dehra turning into centre of ‘political corruption’
Hoshiar Singh further claimed that the Dehra Assembly constituency has been reduced to a “hub of political corruption” under the present government. He alleged that selective contractors were being favoured in Public Works Department tenders, and poor-quality material was being used in construction works.
According to him, tar laid on roads was coming off within a day and substandard food grains were being distributed at government ration depots. He also alleged that while the subdivision headquarters was receiving attention, development in other parts of the constituency had come to a halt, depriving people of basic facilities.
He accused MLA Kamlesh Thakur of “misleading educated voters” with grand promises to serve her political interests.
Hoshiar Singh also reiterated his allegation that during the Dehra Assembly bypoll, funds worth several lakhs were distributed through the Kangra Central Cooperative Bank to ensure the victory of Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur. He noted that the matter is currently under consideration in the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
Expressing confidence, he said, “Once the honourable court delivers its verdict, the true face of the Congress government will be exposed before the people.”
He added that every section of society is “suffering” under a government that, according to him, won the Dehra bypoll through “money power”.
