Mandi: Himachal former CM Jai Ram Thakur highlighted Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s apparent disquietude, discernible from his recent pronouncements. Thakur was talking to media persons in Sundernagar.
Expressing dismay, Thakur underscored the Chief Minister’s propensity to scrutinize his own party’s legislators, juxtaposed against their avowed autonomy in decision-making. He advocated for introspection, urging the Chief Minister to reflect on the circumstances precipitating such inquiries, rather than directing them outward.
Thakur raised pertinent questions regarding the augmented security measures afforded to Congress MLAs in Himachal Pradesh, drawing parallels to Z-plus security protocols. He lamented the spectacle of MLAs being shadowed by pilots and escorts, with police patrols surveilling their residences, highlighting the precarious situation confronting Congress legislators.
Moreover, Thakur lamented the departure from convention in the inauguration of the international Shivratri festival in Mandi, traditionally overseen by the Chief Minister. He bemoaned the injection of partisan rhetoric into the solemnity of the occasion, attributing the Chief Minister’s discourse to disillusionment within the ruling dispensation.
Citing the erosion of the government’s majority, Thakur asserted the loss of its ethical mandate to govern, stemming from perceived subversion of democratic principles during the budget session. He underscored the precariousness of the government’s tenure, attributing its survival to procedural irregularities rather than popular endorsement.
In a scathing critique, Thakur decried the Chief Minister’s announcement of the Mahila Samman Nidhi without corresponding budgetary allocations, casting doubt on its feasibility and efficacy. He questioned the transparency and efficacy of the honorarium scheme, branding it as an electoral ploy bereft of substantive policy implications.
Thakur concluded by asserting the electorate’s burgeoning disillusionment with Congress machinations, signaling a groundswell of dissent poised to manifest in the upcoming Lok sabha elections.
